Being stranded on the side of the road isn't exactly the most fun experience. However, it can happen to anyone at any point in time. There are no guarantees that your vehicle is going to work at all times, even though you might do everything right. Something like glass in the road can leave you stranded and waiting for a tow company to arrive and get you back on the road once again. If you are waiting on the wrecker and looking to pass the time, here are three things you can do while you wait.
Get your vehicle to the side of the road.
If your vehicle stalled in the middle of the road or blew a tire out, you need to work on getting it to the shoulder of the road as quickly as you can. Not only will this help to prevent an accident from occurring that could damage your vehicle more, but it will also protect your vehicle and everyone inside from potential injury. This also makes it easier for the towing company to be able to hook your vehicle up and get you on your way. If you are stuck in the middle of the road, it makes it a little more difficult for them to do so.
Turn your hazards on.
Make sure to turn your hazard lights on so other vehicles can see you. This alerts them to the fact that something is going on and signals to them that they need to drive around you when it is safe to do so.
Place triangles and flares around your vehicle.
Once you are safely off the side of the road, use flares and reflective triangles to help alert oncoming drivers to your situation. These work great at night and in more difficult driving conditions because of how bright the flares are. It also helps the tow truck driver locate you a little easier when trying to find you in the middle of the night.
By doing the three things above, you will not only help the time pass by quickly, but you will make sure other vehicles see you and you are out of harm's way. Don't just sit around doing nothing; do something that keeps you and your loved ones safe while you wait. Before you know it, the towing company will be there and you will be back in business again.
